Woodfast Bandsaw
This is a Woodfast bandsaw that has been offered to me for $1000. It is 19" and has a very hefty 1hp 240v motor, no fence, no dust chute but does have a dust collection tray and has wheels for easy mobility, a couple of spare blades also. Unsure of age but guess 30 years - has had relatively light use though the cabinet appears to have a few paint scrapes but no significant dings.
Anyone got one? Any particular pitfalls with this model? Are parts still available for this machine? Is this a fair price?

Hi rev
That looks like one mean mother.
Woodfast is just about THE most respected name in the business and they make quality tools. Nothing like the crap that most of us have to buy.
If the machine is 30 years old then the motor will be a VERY nominal 1hp indeed. It is can probably supply a lot closer to 2 hp for quite a while. Nowadays, a 1hp motor will supply about 1.0001hp
$1000 sounds very good for the machine but on principle I would try to knock the price to about $800.
It looks like you could even do resawing of logs without any risers or other mods. This on its own will save you money in the end.
PS if you decide against it let me know where it is please.Bob Willson

Soundman,
You make a good point and you make my decision difficult!
After a bit of argy-bargy, I can get the Woodfast for $750 with 5 blades.
I've never had a bandsaw before so I don't know if the features you mention on the 17" from gpw are worth the difference. Anyone got advice?
