    Default I Might Be Wrong

I might be wrong but my experience with woodworking equipment is that while you can make do with getting away with cheaper machines, table saws, routers etc, there is definitely a major issue with buying bandsaws.

The difference of quality of the cheaper models and how they perform is much greater in bandsaws than any other machine. I just posted about my refit of a MJ343B. In it's original state it was nothing more than a convenient way to chop up small bit of wood. I'm hoping that the refit will change this.

My advice when buying a bandsaw, cheap is cheap.

    Mmmm... yes and no.

If buying new, I think the absolute bottom end of the quality range are the BAS-350 or SW-1501. They tend to cut like crap out of the box, but can be tweaked up to acceptable standards. (If they can't be tweaked into line, there's something seriously wrong and it should be covered by guarantee. )

FWIW, I can cut 2mm redgum veneers at full depth on my SW-1501. Admittedly, it took a bit of work to get it there, but I'm very, very happy with the result.

Any "cheaper" models than these are where I agree with you, they're pennies better spent elsewhere - including the cheap chaiwanese variants of the above two, items sold by Bunnies and, IMHO, anything with three wheels. (I'm sure I'll cop flak for that last, but I still reckon it's true. So there! )
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.
