    Default New Additions

Since Auto Blast Gates kicked off I'm spending much more time at the electronics bench. I thought I deserved a few items to make my life easier.
First one is a solder pot.

Was really cheap so was a bit of a gamble but it works great. I did pull it apart and improved the earthing and insulation. When I'm making up ABG controllers I batch make a lot of the individual components. I stripped and tinned the ends of this lot in a fraction of the time it would usually take me.

Next toy ...essential work safety, efficiency enhancement tool...is a binocular inspection/soldering microscope.

This thing is great. The size of some components nowdays means that you cannot solder them by hand without some form of vision enhancement.
Great for final inspection for quality control as well. The articulating arm is really good. I can swing it out of the way when I don't need it and can have it back in place in seconds when I do , with no setup.

It's difficult to get a good photo through the eyepiece but when I use the microscope it is crystal clear and the binocular vision gives a great 3D effect that you can't reproduce with a phone camera.
This one is about 10x magnification. I can go up to 90x but I will never need that much for electronics

    Here's a 20c piece for size comparison.

Nice setup, and a clean bench! Watch any random electroncs vid on YT and you'd think a messy pig sty of a workspace was somehow a requirement for electronics...

I have spent a bit of time trying to get it organised over the last few months. The french cleat setup on the wall has got a lot of gear off the bench.
