    Default Capacitor Code

    Hi all,
I have a capacitor that appears to be leaking.

I tested it with a multimeter and get no readings for continuity or resistance.

Trying to order a new on and need to know what the coding on the capacitor means.....2.2K 250VAC

    I am trying to understand whether 2.2K = 0.0022uF.

    Thanks in advance

    K normally = uF
therefore it will be a 2.2uF 250ac cap

K may refer to tolerance of 10%

Continuity or resistance testing a capacitor with standard multimeter is kinda pointless.
It would normally have no continuity (the plates are separated by a very high resistance material) hence near info resistance.
Normal these are tested with a multimeter set on capacitance setting if the multimeter has such a setting.

Easier to see with an analogue meter but you should see a brief flick of the needle or low resistance as it charges up.
But leaking or bulging is bad regardless of correct measurement.

I have been checking out some Youtube vids about texting Capacitors with the type of multimeter I have and the readings still show no activity. For the inexpensive cost of a new capacitor, I'll just order another one on line.

I'll try element14 on line to see if they have them.

Seeing it's rated at 250volt, if it's connected to 240ac, used a higher voltage rating.
