Electronics Course in Sydney?
Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a basic electronics course run in Sydney. TAFE or Community College, doesn't matter. Something with basic theory and hands-on practical elements.
Cheers Ben.

pretty sure NSW TAFE still offer this.
Did my Basic (think its known as cert 3 these days) and Advanced in early 90's here in Vic.
If u cant find it listed as such, try looking under Electrotechnology. Recon this kind of thing would fall under the umbrella of Electrical cause there are elements that would be taught in sparkies apprent course, possibly as an optional module.
These days there is no shortage of good online stuff to help explain basics.
A good working knowledge of transposing formulas really helps.
Hopefully this helps.www.lockwoodcanvas.com.au

From an early age my father taught me to wear welding gloves . "Its not to protect your hands son, its to put out the fire when u set yourself alight".

Hi,
The TAFE courses are $500 plus and too many hours for me to commit to (due to work and family ) but I did find this:
Electronics Basics Macquarie Community College
Other side of Sydney though.

- Get a basic multimeter (DVM) if u dont own one. One with an old school meter movement as well wouldnt hurt.
Some of stuff I would look up to start with is stuff like the flow of electrons, Ohms Law, water analogy (this will help with grasping basics like resistance/current/voltage).
Component coding (colors, numbers)
Initially sticking to DC will make it easier (theres more crap to consider with AC)
Some basic concepts like power (P=VxI)
Basic components (caps, resistors, inductors)
Once u have got ur head around this Then start looking at Left and right hand rule; helps u get into basics like inductors, generators, transformers.
A bit of experimenting here with a 12 v plug pack (fused). Basic testing of a simple circuit with globes, resistors etc...
Onto transistors (transfer resistors)
Basic components in series/parallel.
That will keep u scratching ur head 4 a bit
its been over 20 years since I did this stuff, so no doubt I have missed heaps of stuff.
Good luck with it.www.lockwoodcanvas.com.au

If all else fails try a local Ham Radio club.
