But the really appalling thing is that you could probably make a good living selling these things to gullible people all over the world.

Why are you doing these things? I hope that it is more than just a Greenie Get Off The Grid thing. If you live outside the grid, so be it.

I need 1kW for possibly 10 hrs as we can have as many as 60 power interruptions per day (the girls in the grocery store quit counting at 60.)

I have one 75W panel and 4 x 6VDC deep cycle batteries. Ganged up properly, that's 12VDC to drive my 120VAC inverter. My compressed wood pellet stove eats maybe 500W and the 3 motors are very fussy to eat pure sine wave. I discovered that a fast cycle charger was better than a bunch of solar panels which do not work well for me at night.
Ah, you see you forgot that Australia is a socialist utopia.

The government gives you a rebate on instillation (other taxpayers pay for it) and you get paid 5 to 8 times the price to export than import (other consumers pay for it).

It's typical of the model here. Socialised losses, privatised profits.

Unless of course you have only recently decided to install solar because of the ridiculous rise in the prices of both electricity and gas. Then, all you get is $0.08 cents per Kwh for your power into the grid and you still have to pay about $0.28 for every Kwh you purchse back from th energy companies. So Evanism, I would suggest that you don't use such a broad brush to paint everybody with the same colour.

Your comments are a bit silly and insulting.

PS If you don't like being part of our socialist utopia, you might like to try out the Russian one or the Chinese one or the North Korean one. They are all equally as utopian --- just ask their governments.

Evanism, that may be correct somewhere in Australia, but in Victoria where I live, it is very much incorrect.

What I pay in dollars and cents for electricity per kilowatt hour, I get exactly the same for export. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also the offers of much money for connecting a small residential privately owned electricity generating system to the privately owned state wide electricity system, didn't happen to us.

As we are generating more electricity in total than we consume, and have done so over the short life of our system, then it could be argued we are subsidising the peoples of Australia with our capital outlay being used for the funding of the generation plant installation.
