Not helping much here, I've only just read this thread, but a 'megger tester' is an earth continuity and insulation resistance tester. Megger is actually a brand name. Bit like Hoover to refer to a vacuum.
All electricians should have a Megger as it is used for some of the tests of electrical installations required by law. I have two They are very handy to have and aren't that expensive.

I bought 4 of these for the guys to use on site a while ago and they are pretty good.

Whats a sparky need one for?
$50! I've almost paid that for an old one. Suitable for operation by an idiot with a good set of instructions?

Easy as. Watch where your fingers are when you push the button though. They really hurt.

I am very happy. Just have to do a little maintenance and tuning on the machine and we are in business.

Thanks for the posts re a Megger and fingers. Got a friend (ex sparkie) who has a Megger so I might just test the old motor when I get my hands on it. It was rewound 5 or 6 years ago so should be OK though. The VFD is not complaining so that's good.

I love my fingers so I will watch out for the bities too.
