Ferris was certainly popular back in the 60's do you know its history because at least the transistor (probably 6, 7 or 8) in your photograph with leather case looks mighty like an Astor.

As for Hecla same story and I guess there would not be much left these days.

Thanks David.I have one Astor KQ radio purely because it was cheap & it looks good. $2. All the radios in these pics are Ferris`.I listen to an M94 (not in pics) all the time.Back to mono as Spector would say.Yep, pretty aware of Chums career not only in radios/gutter grip antennae/toys/alternate fuel. As for Hecla,they`re out there.I have other (hecla) heaters i`m restoring/refurbishing.And some Ferris` i`m cleaning up a bit.Not a tech so one day will get them sorted. gordon

Hello I see you restore/refurbish Hecla heaters.I have just bought one (hecla ideal. Rd 6263 art deco vintage style) for my ply wood vintage caravan(early 1950) that i am currently restoring? I Would like to actually use it but I need to repair the heating wire coiled cone support. The ceramic back plate is cracked and the heating cone will not stay in place.The cone itself looks fine. Do you know where I can buy a replacement? Or can it be repaired? I live in SA.Thanks.

The old man worked at Hecla pre-WWII as a metal polisher, after the war he wasn't able to work for a couple of years, but resumed there once discharged from military service in the late 40's.

I saw my first television set, along with about 300 other people in the Hecla factory when the 1956 Olympic games were opened.

Our house was completely stocked with seconds from the Hecla range.
