Default Wanted to buy - Mitre template or saddle.

I am still looking and hoping someone has either one or both of the mitre templates as shown in the pictures. I posted this same request last year after knocking mine off the bench and it cracked. I have the first pictured which is the external mitretemplate. The second is the internal template which I would find very useful too.

Postage to Lara in Victoria. WANTED - Mitre Template-external-mitre-template-jpgWANTED - Mitre Template-internal-mitre-template-jpg

No these are not the same as what I am after. The ones I am after and the broken one I have are used for paring the chisel along the edge to trim mitres for mortise and tenon joints and glazing bars if you know what I mean. The mitred cut can then have the back scribed out or carved out to make the mitred joint. Not clearly explained but that's what they are for not just penciling a line on an edge. I can buy brand new Clifton ones from the UK but they are stupid money. I asked Lie Nielsen if they would consider making some but they will not at this stage. Old Marples and Sorby ones are sometimes seen on eBay too. When I didn't need them I saw them all the time come up for sale. People have discarded them because they don't know what they are used for.

    Thanks anyway.

    Regards Col.

    Hi Col

Personally, I would (and have) make my own from hardwood. One of the issues I have with the vintage templates is that they are often not accurate. I have a Preston lying around somewhere that I have, sacrilegiously, been filing and tuning over several years. What assurance do you have that the one on eBay will be any better than mine?

Before I might purchase the Clifton one - regardless of the price factor - is to get some assurance and comeback that it is spot-on accurate. Incidentally, the Clifton is also obtainable via The Best Of Things (USA). Probably the same price, but postage may be less from the USA than the UK.

    Regards from Perth

Thanks for the reply and the handy pictures to clearly show what I was trying to explain earlier. I have made similar wooden versions over the years but must admit that I am a bower bird in that I like shiny stuff that is convenient to use, looks nice and is nice to have. Just about every tool I have ever owned has needed fiddling with so that does not bother me. Bad luck or stupidity has left my template cracked. Still functional after I super glued it but not as nice as it was or I like. You never know what people have laying around in the shed that they don't use or want. So if I don't ask I will never get.
