Hi All,
I think some people are mixing up the reserve price & starting price
I feel that you should set the reserve price at the minimum you want for your item, then set a low starting price to get the interest started in your item.
Hopefully this will get you the best price for you item.
Then if someone who feels that its worth/or there budget is a set amount they can place a bid then if the reserve is not met the owner can make the decision to sell at a lower price or to hold on to it
Cheers
Rod

I'm well aware of limited resources for Men sheds as I'm a volunteer assistant at the Manningham Men shed. For that reason we don't have a drum sander.
But I still maintain that begging for a low price, whether for a good cause or not, is still contrary to the auction system. You wouldn't do it on Ebay so why here ?

That all makes sense but I am still a little confused. Is the Minimum Bid (Starting Price?) the same as the Reserve Price? If not the reserve will be higher. In this case, how does the computer know what the reserve is to be able to display the tag that the reserve has not been met?

I don't see a problem with this. If one cannot place a bid because the starting price is higher than the budget, then there is no way that the seller will know of the interest if the item does not sell. By expressing an interest and the item does not sell the seller can negotiate with the interested party to sell at an agreed price or else keep the item.
The Woodworkers Forum is NOT like Ebay. The whole concept of the Woodworkers Forum is for Woodworkers helping other woodworkers. To assist sheds with limited funding obtaining equipment can only be beneficial.

Hi
The minimum bid is just a starting price to get people interested. Your reserve price is the lowest price you will sell for, as bids are placed the software looks at the reserve price if its lower it shows not met ,if higher it then shows its met, if they are the same price once someone bids your minimum price it then also matches your reserve price so it shows that reserve is met
Cheers Rod

xxx dammit. The man wants $400 minimum. It's not a hard concept.
Back to my question, does it come with any spare belts by chance?

That's true for the forums except the Auction forum. This part is exactly like Ebay. Normal auction site. You make your bids just like an auction starting at the minimum the seller wants to accept and if you can't make that you don't bid. I wouldn't be surprised if the reserve is even higher then the minimum bid.
I still think begging doesn't do the image of all the other Men's sheds any good. If we wanted something that bad we would do some fundraising.
Peter.

Its not really that simple. As I now understand it, the $400 is the starting price not necessarily the minimum the guy will accept. This would be the reserve price which can be significantly higher. We do not know the reserve price and only find when the bid matches the reserve price and the tab comes up with the message reserve price met. In this case the guy has not nominated the price he is prepared to accept and calls for bids only.
