    Default Lee Valley/Veritas LA Smoother

For sale: Lee Valley/Veritas LA Smoother

Time to thin out the herd a little . Here is an absolutely beautiful looking plane with a custom She-oak handle and knob. There is not another like it. (It also comes with the original Bubinga handle and knob).

There is an adjustable mouth ...

The LA Smoother is a bevel up plane with a 12 degree bed. It is about the same size as a Stanley #4, but is in fact based on the Stanley #62. This is a very versatile plane, capable of being used as a smoother of the highest order ....

... here it is planing interlocked Karri with a 62 degree cutting angle ...

Changing the cutting angle is done simply with a blade with a higher- or lower bevel. The one above is 50 degrees for a 62 degree cutting angle.

By using a blade with a 25 degree bevel, it becomes possible to plane at 37 degrees, which is perfect for planing end grain on a shooting board ...

This plane comes with 2 A2 blades, both freshly honed, one at 50 degrees (creating a 62 degree cutting angle), and a second at 25 degrees (creating a 37 degree cutting angle) ...

Condition is used, but the plane has been looked after with great care, and has only light wear.

This package would cost you $379 at Carba-tec, the Australian agents for Lee Valley ($328 for the plane and $51 for the extra blade).

I would like to simply sell it, but it seems I am forced to offer an auction. Feel free to email me with an offer to purchase (see Buy It Now - $265).

Payment via Direct Deposit. Price does not include postage.

Please use my email rather than PM (which is usually full or close to it). The following is an image only ...

    Regards from Perth
