    Default Lovely Dillenia Veneers

Offering 17 Dillenia quarter cut veneers 2.3 mm thick, sanded both sides (ready for glue) 1.0 m long X 240 mm wide. Veneers were cut from the one board and are stacked in sequence so they can be bookleafed. There is an 18th veneer but it is only 2 mm thick and is thrown in for free.

Dillenia is a red-brown timber that is very similar to silky oak with pronounced medullary rays, except it is reddish rather than golden. First pic is from one side of the board from which these were cut. Second pic is from other side of the board. Both have been wet with metho to show the grain.

Four of the veneers have a defect (like a gum vein), as shown in next pic. Defect is quite small and is adjacent to edge of tape in pic (pic shows worst/biggest defect). Remainder are perfect.

Retailers charge $50 to $100 per square metre for small 400 X 220 veneers 0.6 mm thick. These are about $30.00 - $40.00 per square metre.

I have about a bit more of this lovely timber (240 mm X 75 mm) left, so if you want veneers or turning blanks cut to a specific size, or if you have a lump of timber you want turned into veneers, give me a yell.

    Cheerio!

    John

Had a couple of queries about using veneers such as these for musical instruments.

Instrument makers often use fairly thin veneers and bond three together. I can cut veneers to any thickness you like, and still have some of that Dillenia available.

    Cheerio!

Just dropped the reserve price. The veneers will be sold.

Hi john, what would the total weight be for these veneers. I'm flying down to Brisbane on the 18th and will be spending most of the 19th in Geebung which looks to be fairly close to you. If I have the highest bid, just wondering about how to get them home - working on excess baggage prices. Cheers, Jason

    Jason,

    Geebung is very close.

The veneers weigh between 6 and 7 kg.

    Cheerio,

    Jason,

I must fly out the afternoon of the 18th for a job. If you win the auction, I will arrange to leave them where you can pick them up.

    Cheerio!
