I don't know how far you'd travel or how much you'd pay but this might do

Had a look at the Hyco lathe but it had a problem. The centre on the tail stock was not extending with pressure when turning the handwheel.
Also the spindle clamp did not seem to work either. I think there is a missing part but not sure what. left it for now.
Had a 2.2kw motor

Yep, these is all expected when buying second hand machinery, good to check it in person (unless it is nearly new and pictures confirm it - this is how I bought my last lathe without inspection).

not sure how far Madeley and Kelmscott are from you though, anything north of the Murray is foreign lands to me!!

Andrew, there is a Hare and Forbes lathe on Gumtree at present at Blacktown. Priced $150 - it comes with a few chisels, some of which don't look too bad. It also has a Chuck on the spindle - so at that price it would be worth the 2 hours or so to go down and buy it.

That would be me that snaffle that one up. A bit of surface rust on the bed and two complete sets of tools (one h & f and one other set that feels superior.
Sorry to beat you to it but I saw the ad and literally dropped everything to go look at it.
There was one in woy woy 2 days ago for the same price (a woodfast) but it looked like a P.O.S and needed a lot of work doing to it before any turning got underway
