Single marking gauges
The following are single gauges, each comes with matching marking knife:
Lot 1s:Two cutting gauges in Gidgee (Acacia cambagei).
One of our hardest & densest Acacias. These gauges are from a block that was labelled “Ring Gidgee”. It’s lovely stuff, with a fine but irregular fiddleback figure, not quite what I’d call Ringed Gidgee, but still nice, with a deep lustre. Large gauge, $75 with matching knife. Small gauge, $50 with knife

Lot 2s: She-oak (Allocasaurina torulosa). Two cutting gauges & a pin gauge:
The standard size gauge (left), has a different thumbscrew arrangement from the others. Instead of a threaded insert, there is a brass barrel nut to the right of the beam, to take the thumbscrew. The smaller gauge on the right with the scalloped top is a pin gauge. Large gauge $70 with knife. Small gauges $50 each with knives.

Lot 3s: Red Lancewood (Acacia shirleyi) pencil-gauge (standard size):
A straight grained wood, fine-grained & dense & polishes nicely. The hole is sized to take any typical pencil, which is held in position by a knurled thumbscrew. $70 with knife.

Lot 4s: Lancewood Mortise gauge (stock face about 50 x 55mm, 200mm beam):
This is based on the mortise gauges that were made by several manufacturers last century. The moving pin is attached to a sliding brass arm dovetailed into the beam. The arm is adjusted with the thumbscrew on the end of the beam. Locking the stock also locks the sliding arm. $80 with knife.

Lot 5s: Hairy oak (Allocasaurina inophloia) cutting gauge
I wanted to try something different. This is a ‘standard’ size gauge with a round, not square, beam. The brass locking shoe bears on a small flat on top of the beam, which prevents it from twisting. It works smoothly & locks tightly. Hairy Oak is one of the more spectacular casaurinas, & finishes nicely, as most of them do. $65 with matching knife.

And some exotic woods.
Lot 6s: Small cutting gauges in Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) :
A member of the Rosewood family, nice to work with and easy to polish. It is valued as a handle wood on high-end tools. $45 each with knife.

Lot 7s: Ceylon ebony (Diospyros ebenum). Cutting gauge (larger), pin gauge (smaller)
A prince of woods – deep black, with some faint brown lines, almost grainless and polishes to a very high sheen. Ebony & brass are definitely made for each other...
The marking knives are not Ebony (didn’t have enough) but Brazilian Rosewood, not quite as dark or as fine-grained as the Ebony, but still a beautiful wood. Large gauge $75. Small pin gauge $30

John - Gidgee does vary a bit, from pale to very deep brown. I think the colour of these gauges is about average, hope your H&S handles are fiddlebacked....
Can you & Andy PM me your postal addresses, please. I can get them of tomorrow if you get back to me tonight.
Brett, I have your address, so yours will be on its way tomorrow....
Cheers,IW

Superb work, thankyou
Hi Ian,
I have received my gauges and matching knives today thankyou. They are absolutely superb! The Hairy Oak is super spiffy and bold and the red Lancewood is beautifully understated. They are very functional works of art in wood. I'm just so pleased that I was scanning the forums when you listed, it would have been sad to have missed these.
Regards
David

Thanks David - I do like happy customers!
I hope everyone else gets theirs before the weekend - I was a bit worried when I saw the queue at the P.O. - the Christmas rush is on!
