Veritas bevel up smoother + 2 blades
Bought this here a while ago to add to the collection, but it doesn't get used so it's time to put the money elsewhere.
Includes the plane and standard 38 degree A2 blade as well as 2 extra A2 blades, one 25 degrees and one 50 degrees.
Plane has some surface rust on the sole; it's cosmetic only (no pitting) and should come off with some steel wool. All 3 blades are sharp and ready to go (probably need a quick hone for best finish).
To buy the lot from Carbatec is $489, asking $400 ono
Pickup from Melbourne SE suburbs or can post at cost (should fit in a 3kg Aus Post satchel

Haven't heard from Sunnycoaster, so it's still up for grabs.

Elan, he may be one of the many who still have no forum access. Suggest you send him an email through the forum system - not dependent upon him having forum access.

Hi Elan
This plane does not seem like a "hot item".
Perhaps you could talk it up a bit and explain why someone would benefit from owning one? You know, what does this type of plane do that a normal plane wont sort of thing. It sure has got me curious.

Damn!, that was the worst wrap/sales pitch I have ever heard.
What is the theory? Sure would be interested to hear it.
At least you were honest in your appraisal.

Maybe I can help with this. I have one fitted with a PMV 11 blade 38°. I also have 25° and 50° blades which I can swap around with the BU jointer. They are both excellent planes that minimise tearout in tricky hardwood grains and leave a great surface finish. I must say that I haven't used the smoother as much as the jointer, but I am really really happy with both of them. They are both my "go to" planes (I have about 7 bench planes).
The one thing the bugs me with the jointer is the little brass knob for setting the mouth opening - shavings catch on it big time, so I just removed it altogether and set the mouth by sliding it and then lock the big brass knob. This is not such a big deal with the smoother as the shavings are usually much finer and far less of them of course. From memory I think the smaller brass knob is still in the smoother.
HTH.

I kind of like the little knob. I see what you're saying though. Nonetheless the knob is for setting the MINIMUM mouth depth. This allows you to easily pop the mouth wide open, clear any clogged shavings, and then slide it right back to where it was.
I have the low angle jack plane. It's the same as both of those, just a different length. Admittedly, I like being able to swap blades around. I keep one I ground at 35deg and another that I have a camber on, and then there is a 25deg blade in my shooting plane that I can take out and pop onto the jack in a pinch.
I can imagine that having the bevel up trio as your "big three" would create an immensely versatile planing arsenal.
Nonetheless, at the end of the day, I'm a bevel down guy.
If I weren't, however... I would've snatched this sucker up weeks ago.
