    Default #8A Half back saw

0.032" 1095 hammer tensioned saw plate with dyed maple handle, stainless bushings, medium brass back, 18.25" toothline, 13ppi rake 21o, fleam 20o, OAL 21.75", mass 508 gm. The blade for this saw was tensioned in another post here: Saw blade tensioning for panel and hand saws
As you can see, after lapping there is no visible evidence of hammer blows.

    Thanks Matt.

Half backs rarely have backs approximating half the blade length, this one is 4" long. The back is really just a decoration, the 0.032" blade on this saw doesn't need the back to support it. Nonetheless people want them and they do have a certain appeal.

    Cheers,
    Rob

Thanks. No, this one isn't. The next two will be.

Thanks. The Acme vise is getting really hard to find. The last I saw was an aluminum model that went for ~$700 on eBay. Maybe a good subject for reproduction?

It would be nice to have, never seen or heard of one in Australia. I believe they were part or a larger machine set up rather than a stand alone vice originally. Although I have trouble remembering detail these days or rather recollecting.

I don't imagine a small run of casting would be all that cheap.

Well there's at least one Acme Vise in Australia:

Not just the vice but a complete bench top filer. I hope there are a few more around that I can one day be the proud owner of one.

Well, I had a nice explanation as to why that is not quite correct, but I some how got knocked offline and poof. My response was gone. Little too irritated at the moment to retype the whole thing again. I HATE VERIZON.
