The story of a hole, 6.25 mm,and a happy Matt.

A little diversion tonight if I may, after finding out we are yet again in a lockdown state [emoji17].

The Door bell rings at about 5.30 ish and I become the proud owner of this 5'' Milling Machine Lockdown Vise 360 Degree Swivel Base Bench Clamp Lock Vise | eBay

Yep my brand new decent drill press vies,it’s advertised as a Machinist vies but at under $140 AU, I’m not sure of the tolerance needed for that, but for what I do at present it’s a 1000 percent better than the piece of crap I was using.
So after a quick inspection it was sent out to the drill press.
We’re it’s now proudly doing a fantastic job of holding stuff square and true.
Please excuse the poor parallel bars but there all I had to hand.

    Cheers Matt.

Sorry these pics were meant to be in the thread above, but I’m having learning issues with a new I pad.

That little disk, is the end piece on the saw handle and will soon be rounded to a nice curve, then have eight flutes filed into it.
Kind of missing my metal lathe at present [emoji17].

    Cheers Matt.

Are you demonstrating a new vise, or declaring a new vice?

    Chief,
Both, no really just showing of a new vice.

Spent a lovely drizzle lockdown day in Melbourne today, working on the Pomel for the Gents saw.

First I cleared the cheese plater and set up a basic thingy thing to mark out 8 segments on the face of the Pomel.
These were then scored in using a 4 inch(Bloody imperial) double taper slim triangle file.

Before being opened up more to form the petals using a 4 inch half moon file and few small Jeweller’s round files(are they still rat tail files at that size ?)

It still needs plenty more work, but I’m pleased with how it’s turning out.

    Cheers Matt.

    Matt

I am expecting a very high shine from the king of spit and polish, which is in complete contrast to your name.

Very fancy Matt. The pommel will probably add a nice counterbalance to blade.

    Thanks Mountain Ash,

I think the Pomel may add some weight, but it is only the size of 20c piece.
But your right it is nice using a well balanced saw, so you have got me thinking!!!!.

    Cheers Matt.
