    Matt

I do like your combination of steel and wood in the handles. if you make another plane you might consider brass and timber. The rear handle, in particular, must be extremely strong. It is, to my mind, such a weak point ordinarily. I have one plane where the rear handle has snapped in two and I have repaired it twice so far.

I expect you did explain in your challenge thread, but how did you fix the rear handle to the sole?

    Paul,

I unfortunately have a love hate relationship with Brass, somedays I love it, it cuts files peens beautifully, but I’m not a huge fan of the colour.
That is why you see me use steel, I’m a much bigger fan of silver(steel) than gold(Brass).
    Silver plating immmmm.
But like I said Brass is a lot nicer too play with [emoji6].
The Rear tote is glued on only at present on the “Body”, I was rushing to make the finish line, but I will insert two pins from the sole up into the Tote soon.

An just a very very very ruff concept pic, if you squint from about 30 metres back, I reckon you can see what I’m trying to achieve.

    Cheers Matt.

I have also made a huge mistake my last piece of Bloodwood has a bloody hole(expletive) in it due too some moron not thinking,we’re there should be a nice rectangular slot to accommodate the saw back,it’s in the last shot on the left, arrrrrrrrrr.

I understand with "The Body" and the pins.

A narrow rectangular slot is very difficult to achieve. It did make up a couple of "mortice" chisels to do cut a rectangular slot with some JP kitchen knives. It necessitated drilling three or four round holes first and opening them out with the chisels. When the slot is only 2mm or 3mm wide it is fiddly.

I had thought you were going to glue small slithers of half round stock to each side of the tang to make a round tang.

To AKA Mr BUSHMILLAR with Love, kind of sounds like a James Bond movie tile.

These little Slithers are done, not a very nice name but oh well[emoji17].

These will hold the saw back center within the Tube that is held in the Saw Body.

Not really much to say about them, except they come from the Made in Malaysia tree, there approximately 46 mm long 4 mm thickish.
A picture or three says a thousand words.

    Cheers Matt.

Agreed, and standard length 2mm or 3mm drills are too short for the task and the extra long versions are required that then bring their own issues with snapping at those smaller diameters when deep in tough old woods.

    Matt

That's an interesting solution you have come up with there for holding the tang in the handle.
    Stay sharp and stay safe!
