    Default Bubinga Carcass Backsaw

Attached is 1 of 2 Carcass backsaw I recently completed. The tooth line is just under 12 inches long, and has been sharpened 12 tpi.

    Regards; Stewie.

Nice work Stewie. What brand of file did you use to sharpen it? (I've got a bit of a bee in my bonnet about saw files atm)

Hi Brett. 12 tpi and above I use the Vallorbe 3 square needle files. http://jewellerssupplies.com.au/images/pdfs/P96_101.pdf

Ray supplied me with adequate saw plate and brass back a fair while ago. Got enough left for another 6 backsaws.

    Cheers,
Hi Ian. I needed a good break from the workshop to pursue other interests. Ended up being close to 6 months away. Feeling fresh and able to again return to making some nice looking backsaws.

    regards; Stewie.

Hi Brett. I can fully understand your frustration at the lack of quality found in more recently manufactured saw making files. As a good example the Nicholson Files now made in Mexico are well below par. Apart from using the Vallorbe files, I also have a good number of boxed earlier manufactured (USA) Nicholson Taper Files purchased from private sellers in the U.S.

    Regards; Stewie.
