    Default Changes to handle shape.

    For those who may remember the previously completed backsaw I posted photo's of, I made comment that I wanted to make some changes to the shaping of the handle as well as move from 2 to 3 saw bolts.

    Here's a reminder of that handle shape.

    To make it must easier to visualize the changes I have now moved to I have overlapped this new handle template over the earlier shape used. As you can see these changes included a slightly larger cheek to accept that 3rd saw bolt; the grip length has been made longer to further increase the range of compatible hand sizing; as well I have lowered the top profile from beak through to the top horn.

    Now onto my latest backsaw build using this new handle shape. The handle wood is again black walnut; and the saw plate has been sharpened 16tpi soft rip.

    Stewie;

    Looks the goods
    Is the tote comfortable in the hand?

    And can you see the little monkey face on the tote?

    Hi Nick. The shaping to the back of grip fits very nicely in the hand. Getting that shape right is an important factor but IMO the other key ingredient to max comfort is a shape in a reasonably wide overlap to the rounded edge to both the inner and outer grip surfaces. Must say I never noticed the little monkey face until you mentioned it. .

    Great work Stewie, Why did you add the third bolt, technical or aesthetic reasons?

    Cheers,
    Rob

    Thanks Rob. The reasons for wanting a 3rd saw bolt was purely aesthetic.
