    Default Cutting saw plate to size.

    Hi. A while ago I purchased this type of hand metal shear to trial it with cutting saw plate. 8" 200mm Manaul Steel Metal Plate BAR Hand Shears Shear | eBay

    Today I got around to finally setting it up and trialing it on some scrap 0.020 & 0.025 saw plate. Little effort was required to assembly the shears with only the pull down bar requiring bolting on. The quality of the shears seemed very good for the price paid, with a very tight clearance evident between the fixed and moving cutting jaw. How did it go. !!!

    Well it worked extremely well, with minimal effort required to slice through the saw plates. The cut edges remained flat with no signs of roll over. the only sign to the freshly cut edges was a very light raised burr on the top surface of the cut edge, which would require little effort to remove.

    Here's some pics.

    Stewie;

    I was actually wondering about how you were going with the shear yesterday…Looks like it is a good option for cutting. Are you going to set up some sort of fence so you can feed in at 90deg?

    Hi Paul,

    On the strength of the comments about the Beverly shear I decided to try one. It is great. Cuts 1095 like it is paper. Thanks for the suggestion.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    It does leave a slight curl on the edge of the cut so I dressed it with a few file strokes and all of the curl was removed.
