Great work Matt. Love the way you have shaped the brass back. Your on your way to becoming a very good saw maker. Well done.

    Default Burdekin Plum Handle.

Hi. Started work on a new backsaw handle. The handle wood is Burdekin Plum. It a heavy and dense timber and is well suited for hand shaping.

Hey Dale. I think its about the right time to have a separate forum within hand tools/unpowered- dedicated for hand saw making posts.

I'm working on my second saw now BUT
Is there any sort of help group .
My fiancé thought the first one was very nice .
But I think by the third saw she would be saying something along the lines of what about the fly screen door you were going to make.
Do I keep my dark dirty secret to my self or confess that I brought from my saw dealer(Dale)
    Enough for about 5 saws.
I'm so confused and feel helpless none of my family or friends seem to understand .
All I get from them is it's a saw .

Matt. I had the same problem with my daughter. "Its nice but its only just a saw" In the end I stopped showing her. The misses still likes to see them.

    Maybe
I should put some bling in to the next one.
A couple of laser lines for lining the cut.
That flash and sink with your iPhone.
    Paint it bright pink/gloss black.
    Stud it with diamonds
Have a PR manager get some celebrity to walk around with it hanging it around there neck.
Make it the next must have accessory maybe even see if Gucci to want to carry it as a line?

    Stewie,

We could put it here HAND TOOLS & MACHINERY : HOMEMADE TOOLS AND JIGS ETC.

    HOMEMADE TOOLS AND JIGS ETC.

Or get our own Sub forum for Tool Making - Saws, Planes, Marking Gauges, etc.

Dale. I think that's a really good choice to put the saw making posts. Good thinking .

Well, this has added a new dimension to saw making! I've stuck to boring chamfers on my backs, but the goalposts have now been moved. I will be adding some more decorative flourishes on my next saws. I do like that vine motif...

Who do I hassle or where do I go to get more saw plates?
I know a place to get brass from in oakleigh.
And I seem ok splitting with the dremel.

Its just an ordinary old black dremel.
    No jigs and no attachments.
But if I put the plate in the vice and with a calm steady hand and a 1 inch grinding wheel I can very slowly slit the back.

If I get excited I may make a jig to do it in.
