So Is Drivel Anything Thats Off Topic
So Is Drivel Anything Thats Off Topic??
Nowadays even the HAVE YOUR SAY thread gets closed prematurely if the mods don't like the topic.
This is contrary to the actual thread concept which clearly states
"This is your chance to have your say on what ever you wish. Rant and rave. Give someone a pat on the back, or a kick their bum. ONE STIPULATION: Keep it about woodwork and related woodies stuff."

Bob,
Give it a rest, let the subject die down. Neil posted the boundaries in the other thread as follows :
Quote:
The boundaries for drivel:
Below is copy of the only instructions given by me to the mods re drivel. I have been loath to put this on because it shows the boundaries that I know some of you are going to push. However for the sake of some peace and rational thinking from some members I have put them on here.
______________________________________________
Not worried about drivel in anything other than real forums.
Woodies Jokes and A Woodies Yarn are fun and if they want to drivel in there then who cares.
Polls to a lesser extent are much the same and only in the more serious polls would I be worried about drivel or hijacking, actually some of the polls deserve...... Nay, beg, to be hijacked.
My best interpretation of what could give rise to deletion and infraction. Anything mindless that sounds like it's coming from a little kid and has nothing what so ever to do with the thread it's in.
Pretty simplistic I know but how complicated do we want to make it.
Leave the witty stuff etc so long as it's in keeping with the thread and isn't intended as a deliberate hijack, even then, if the thread rights itself almost immediately leave it. I definitely don't want to kill what makes these forum so great and that is the fact that we do have a laugh, make wise cracks, etc.
Unquote.
It seems to me to be so simple.
Drivel in woodworking threads is no longer allowed. If you're not sure if it's drivel then don't post it. Instead ask the question, does it help, is it relevant or informative and is is accurate. If none of the above it may be drivel.
On the other hand if it appears to be drivel then you can post it in the drivel forum.
So it appears that we may have lost a member, I won't go into the reasons but it appears to be a dummy spit because he got reprimanded in private. Instead of questioning it in private he went public, So be it, let him go in peace.
I was on the brink of finally logging of and no longer continuing my involvement when the crack down on mindless drivel started. This has stopped me leaving and now am resuming a more active role as can be seen by my first picture post/ how to in over a year.
So we lost one and retained another, it all balances out.
May this forever trying to push the boundaries and questioning now stop for that is fast becoming mindless drivel, for now we know all the rules.
Peter.

No, read Neil's recent post.
Bob, you had your say, I did not delete or edit any posts and I did post this:
"I am going to close this thread now as this discussion is generally being held without a complete understanding of the circumstances. For those who will view this as an abuse of mod 'power' or restriction of freedom of speech, that is not the intent.
I think both sides of the discussion have been put, and further discussion is most likely just going to make the situation worse for all those involved. "
Since you are the originator of that thread I am happy to re-open it. Mind you, I would have been a lot happier if you had approached me in a reasonable and private PM, as I do try to be reasonable and posting this was unnecessary.

Peter, I was going to mention this somewhere some time, but didn't. You copped a bit of a reaming the other day, in the end you decided life is too short, I commend you, or probably more your mrs.
Anyway, does this mean we will see some sort of Sturdee safety style saw sticks? (ya know what I mean ) I had a go at some, the prototype is pretty rough, but they seem to work and haven't gotten a round tuit.Boring signature time again!

Hey Outback... that is off topic... but I agree with you.
Peter, I have seen you cop a fair bit & hold your own in a good number of stoushes over the years, & than was with the non-drivellers.
You have a tough skin & a good head, don't let some people's weird sense of humour get to you.Cliff.
If you find a post of mine that is missing a pic that you'd like to see, let me know & I'll see if I can find a copy.

I agree, in that episode I believe I was misinterpreted as to my intentions but rather than inflame matters even more I apologized for not having been more clearly in my question. Comes from trying to be short and concise. My mistake hence apology.
When I get a little bit of time I'll do a detailed photo shoot, just for you.
Peter.
