waldo, their wouldnt be 1 single member here that wants humour stopped, that is stupid, and only those with humour issues would think that way. my 2 cents is why is their so many posts here hijacked with the same people over and over trying to out humour each other. it appears to me that they have been here in this forum so long they have lost interest in going over and over the same old basic questions so they either say do a search because its been covered before at length or give a basic answer and then start to swap banter efectivly ending the original topic. im guilty of it, but it seems to be getting worse. keep the fun but just ease up on the silly hikacking

    Redwood,

    I'll hikack m'self before I stop hijacking!!

No it isn't getting worse, it's just that a whole bunch of people have arrived of late, who don't like it!

I picked an old thread more or less at random to show you, this ain't a new phenomenum. At the time this thread kicked off it went for a record three posts before it was hijacked. https://www.woodworkforums.com/f152/clamp-cramp-9180

It wasn't unusual for threads to be hijacked at post #2, and more than once the original poster did that in paragraph two or three anyway. All this "keep on track and be serious" stuff comes up every now and then, but thankfully hasn't caught on.

Note: at all times, the respondants were enjoying themselves, that a bunch of people contributed, that the topic changed a few times, it came back at the end, we learned a bit, and no-one cared. The object was then, and is now HAVE FUN, SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW, LEARN WHAT YOU DON'T. In that order.

    Cheers,

    P

    G'day Redwood,

My post in no ways was derogatory against yours, it was only posted below your and was a reply directly to Al's post.

I'll go to that corner now.

On the subject of advising people to do a search, on several forums that I haunt you should try posting a question without having done a search first, mate the flames will take your eyebrows off, by comparison we are gentlemen.

One of the forums even has a "Newbies" section, where newcomers can ask any dumb question and be totaly flameproof. It is usually left up to the very very tolerant members to do the replies.

Al, I owe you one old mate.

To those of you that don't like the way things are, then maybe you haven't had one of those wake up calls that very forcefully tell you that life is meant to be fun, and enjoy it while you can. I hope you never get one of those calls, but I do advise you to expand your tolerance a bit and enjoy life a little more.

For the record, when I was sorting out the threads in Home Reno 95% of the threads I moved I quickly read to get the jist of what they where about to make sure that they went to the right forum. Ozwinner responded many, many times with helpful straight to the point answers. So for those of you that think he only sh*t stirs, well ....... you're wrong!
Have a nice day - Cheers

If you dont like humourous posts dont read them, or better still join one of the American forums.

Can you imagine a forum without humour? (Im sure you can) I cant.

Just my say, and if you dont like it, stiff.

I thought that was my point.

I find it ironic to say the least, that people log on to this forum, make all sorts of mushy noise about how they love our attitude and sense of humour, then after a week or two get sick of it and start complaining.

Yep, so taking the mick out of it (or watching others) makes it fun.

    Cheers,

What bugs me about the vocal anti search brigade is that they expect that the older and more knowledgeable members should repeat the same answers to the same questions time and again just to help some newbie who doesn't search the forum first.

When I want some information I do my research. This usually involves checking my local libraries, asking tradesmen on building sites (if applicable), searching this and other boards and finally asking a question here. I then consider all the information found and decide on how to do something.

The owners of this board make this search easy by providing the search option and they want you to use it for Neil himself has posted that people should do a search. ( Do a search to find where. ).

Instead some newbie comes on and without even bothering to search asks a question notwithstanding that the answer is in a topic dealt with recently. Recently a member said that he did a search and it threw up so many results that he couldn't be bothered to read them and said that it was easier to re ask the question.

From this I infer that he considers his time more important than the time of the more knowledgeable members who he expects to search for the answer and repost it. Well IMO he is wrong and is insulting those more knowledgeable members.

Sure I like to help out, but if I know that the answer is in the archives they can spent their own time searching for it and I will continue to ignore those posts. If this upsets the anti search brigade so be it, but I consider my on-line time too valuable to waste on those that won't try to help themselves.

I might live in what is becoming a nanny state but I don't have to become a nanny.

Ny apologies for the serious hijack Al.

    Peter.

this is like the reserves playing the seniors. beatin your head up againsed a brick wall of the 14 that have so far replied a total of around 38000 posts between them   an average of around 2700. naturaly you seniors are going to go into bat for each other . i wonder if their are figures kept on when people drop out of this forum. i suspect after 4 to 600 alot would have had their fix and be getting tired of the same old banter. their are exeptions and they seem to go on into the thousands and virtualy live here. its a great forum with lots to see and learn but it dose seem to be a forum "owned" by a group of 15 to 20
