    Default Get Serious Children!

For the past while, I've noticed that the ratio of serious posts to silly posts is drastically falling.

Now no one enjoys a good chuckle more than I, but humour requires a delicate balance. You've probably observed young children that haven't figure that out yet. They do something funny and everyone laughs. So they repeat it and most laugh, but eventually what garnered laughs becomes just plain silly.

I think that's in danger of happening on these forums. More and more space is taken up by children who don't know when funny becomes boring.

If you don't think I'm right, do a "New Posts" search. Yesterday, easy 2/3's of the posts had little, or nothing to do with woodworking. OK so it goes in cycles and today it's a bit better.

Here's my challenge, since this is a woodworking forum, why not impose some self-discipline? Make at least three of four posts that are woodworking related. Forget about trying to be the funniest child on the block and avoid hijacking every post that comes along. Respond with comments that are on the subject. Sure don't forget your Aussie humour, but if all you ever post is non-woodworking in content - go elsewhere!

At least that's how I see it! Go ahead - this is just the kind of post that gets severely flamed.

Don, everything you said was right, even the bit at the bottom about getting seriously flamed. thank-you for having the guts to say it even though you were aware of the consequences.

Have to agree Don. Im at times guilty as i just go straight to the new post thread and respond to what ever takes my fancy as most posts are non wood related. the wood posts do get hijacked quickly if they go past a day or so and some get bored with them. if you look back over the serious posts the same groups are the hijacking comedians having fun, and they know who they are 80% woodwork related and 20% for the wanna be comedians would be a good ballance

    Thumbs up

Strewth Don - Talk about leading with your chin.

I couldn't agree with you more. It is often very frustrating. You and most others only get to see what is left after the axes have been swung you ought to see some of the rot that we delete.

    Cheers - Neil

Ok Neil, I agree there's a lot of rot and I would be one of the main culprits . But why has this "HAVE YOUR SAY" thread been so heavily edited?

Well it's a funny thing but a hell of a lot of real good advice comes from some of the biggest clowns on the forum, not the idiots, the clowns.

If you care to do a search of the point scorers you will find a lot of the clowns are in the top 15, but none of the idiots, does this say anything at all?

In my opinion I'm one of the clowns, but there are a lot of people on this forum who have recieved not only serious advice via posts, but phone calls to walk them step by step through a problem. So from me you either take the bad with the good or put me on your ignore list.

Good call Don In the past i was guilty of being an idiot and not treating the forum with the respect it deserves and i learned my lesson. I like it here, so now i prefer just to focus on all things wood even if i rave on to much on a particular topic. Having fun is good and shouldnt be stopped but it shouldnt be at the expense of the reason we are all members, and thats the love and passion we all have for all things wood

Groggy This thread hasn't been heavily edited just had all the funny ones merged into one.

Saves space on the server and was fun for this admin. But not for you eh?

Usually I never edit or delete anything unless it is completely over the top and over the top to me means WAAAY over the top. However this time I did and I liked it.... Maybe I'll continue Mwaahahaha

Neil, I respect your right to do that and I suspect you did it in the hope of needling some of the culprits under discussion. Since I have obviously been a bit of a pest I'll drop off the bulletin board and lower the noise for you, as I had not been aware it was a problem.

I suggest that in future people let us know if we go overboard, as it is easier and less embarrasssing to reverse a developing behaviour than to reverse an embedded one.

Thank you for running such an informative site, I've enjoyed my time here and wish you and the other members the best for the future.
