Thread: No show tradies

Tradies who don't show up don't get a second chance with me, unless by a miracle they phone with a note of absence.

I've managed 3 good tradies so far:
• a plumber who is always on time if not early;
• a locksmith as above; and
• a pretty good sparkie. Not always on time but he'll let me know if he can't be.

But they are rare as hens teeth the blokes who actually turn up and not treat you as, yeah mate get there when I can be bothered.

In WA we still have a skills shortage and in my experience the only tradesmen willing to do domestic work are usually the ones that aren't good enougth to be doing commercial or industrial work, particully sparkys.

A lot of them still have enougth work on that they don't seem to care if they lose a few jobs here and there either when it's an inconvinece to them to actually show up.

Hope i haven't offended anyone because i know there are still some good tradies out there that will do domestic work and will show up when they say they will, it's just a matter of finding them.

This is only an observation not a criticism , my my how things have changed ????
1 reduced times with apprenticeships
2 work ethics ( seem to have diminished somewhat )
3 pride in your work ( this also seems to be lacking somewhat )

I have had it said to me that this is progress . Oh well better get back to my shed now .

So that was at 1.46 how did the day end up - when is he coming now.

Remember he wont ask for payment until he is finished so I always think that holding payment for a month for every day late is a reasonable time

Feeling your pain John. We had some work done here at home this year. My mate is our sparkie and he arrived to do the inital work, the gyprocker who was doing the job was dealayed because he had scored the flu. He did ring though and book in a replacement date. He showed up did a great job, but I am now waiting for my mate to come by and finish his bit. I am happy to wait because he is a family friend and they are good friends at that. Besides he does my work for free or the odd beer, might have to give him a call to see when he's coming by next though.

I use German tradies...dunno what it is but theyre always exactly on time and they all love strong coffee and classical music.
