    Default Veneer wars!

A few months ago I chanced across an ad on Gumtree for a load of veneer for sale, the photos weren't very clear but looked to be some good stuff in there.I hadn't done much veneer work for a long time and thought it would be a good way to get back into it.

I emailed and negotiated a price for it sight unseen so it was a bit of a gamble, pick up had been delayed a week as we had van trouble, me and the misses (chauffeurs me around)went to collect it,althought had a bit of a problem finding the property as the number had fallen off the gate and was partly burried in the undergrowth.Maybe that was a bad sign of what was to come.

The veneer was in a terrible state crammed into four large rat urine soaked chipboard boxes festooned with rat poo and old nesting material, however could see there was some good stuff on top at least so had no problem taking it for the price I paid "mister c" as I will call him and he and a friend of his helped load up the van.

As we were leaving he asked if he might guy a small quanity down the track, I said it wouldnt be a problem.

On returning home I set about the monumental and unpleasant task of cleaning and sorting the veneer.
This was a matter of priority as we live on a small block on an estate, Fortunately got my son in law to weld up some racks to fix to tha garage wall for storage, not exactly the best arrangement but far better than it had been treated for the last 10 years inthe ownership of "mister c"

Little did I know that a few weeks later "mister c" contacted me proposing that I might like to sell half of the veneer back to him for the price I paid him!
Given the time and effort and unpleasantness of having to sift through all the crud that it came with I was not impressed by the offer and this certainly wasn't the small quantity that he spoke of when I picked up the veneer.I should point out that there is around 5000 square feet of it so selling half back was not something I was keen to do."mister c" wanted to make some small boxes so couldn't see why he wanted so much.
Over the last few weeks he has harassed me on regular basis with emails, phone calls from friends, letters, he wants to involve his clinical psychologist and the president of our local woodworking association all in an attempt to get his way.

He has well and trully assasinated my character in virtually every letter and email he has sent me and I find my self wondering why on earth I would ever want to sell any back to him for any price.

I had been quite prepared at the outset to sell some back to him, and was initially contemplating giving him a small quantity for free. However his shear bloody mindedness and harassing tactics now mean that there is no chance he will ever see any of the veneer again, I think I would rather set fire to it!

He was very thoughful in letting me know that the veneer wasn't really worth anything and would be a waste of time trying to sell it (kind of makes me wonder why he wants it so badly)

The last straw was him threatening to post a thread on here warning people not to buy any veneer on here that I might be selling and to let everyone know what he thought about me.

I am well and truly sick to death of the guy and I ever hear from him again it will be too soon

It is hard to deal with people whose behaviour we do not understand... It seems like a done deal, you bought something at agreed price, and there is no obligation for you to sell half back. I'd say, that if you don't want to sell veneer back to him - then don't. Even if it was originally clean, brand new and without rat poo - this doesn't matter, deal is deal!

    lmao. thats just nutz!

sounds like he didnt really want to sell the veneer at all, but needed a 'payday loan' so instead of going to a pawnbroker at a rate of like 25% upfront +4%/month interest, he just used anyone he could find off gumtree to give him an interest free loan secured by the veneers...lose his number and forget him imo.

Your veneer stocks got ruined by roof leakage in a recent heavy rain event. So sad.

Or offer him back the really ratty bits that you'd be happy to throw out, at cost price + storage fee + cleaning fee + jumping frog fee.

He sounds nuts. If you have the emails/letters etc take them to the cops and let them deal with it.

Yes, sounds like time for a formal 'cease and desist' letter perhaps drafted with the help of your lawyer or legal aid or even the local cops.

Sounds like he has had a bunch of enquiries about buying the veneer since he sold it and thinks he could have made a bunch more cash out of the deal.

So he has sellers remorse thinking you ripped him off and will sell it making a bunch of profit……The thing is I don't see mention of a gun to his head being forced to take your offer. Also why would he want to buy some back later, that makes no sense just keep a small amount set aside prior to the sale…...

Seems like a jackass that takes no responsibility for his actions and then blames the world going on a vindictive tirade from the way you explain it.

Just enjoy your veneer and post some photos on here of what ever lovely things you make from it.

Hang in there Mark and try not to let it get to you mate, you haven't done anything wrong.

I do agree with some of the other posters perhaps it would be wise to raise it to the police, if for nothing more than having it on formal record (hopefully you will never need it).

It was good catching you and the missus yesterday, keep your chin up mate, it will all blow over with time I am sure.

    Hi Michael,
Nice to catch up with you.
Thanks for you support, I don't think I will, procede any further with it at this stage but.
In all fairness he has been through a fair bit with dep ression etc but have to see the funny side which is the fact he expects me to sell him some veneer after calling me all names under the sun!

Might even get round to using some of the veneer soon.
