5" Victoria Universal Dividing Head
I have just put up a 5" Victoria Universal Dividing Head on ebay, comes with tailstock and two plates however the condition is 'poor'. It will need pulling apart and cleaning to remove the 'flight rust'. Starting price is $50, am I being optimistic?

That is a bargain for the buyer. They would have been better off though selling it to me for $800 I offered on the day of the boeing sale rather than transporting it to Victoria.
Also a little birdie tells me you took home some serious iron from this sale yourself. Look forward to the unmasking and the copious photos when you get her home.
Regards
Mark

Guess what is going to happen to that granite surface plate... ?
The guy is going to slice it up for kitchen bench tops. Apparently you can pay about $4000 for a 40mm thick granite kitchen bench top. He should get at least 10 kitchens out of that slab, and it's that desirable/fashionable black granite colour.
At least he can claim his pizza bases are **really** flat

What are these sorts of sales like these days?
Price of machine tools still dropping?
What about the surface plates they had there... not the monster one...Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

Auction Prices
R.C,
First auction I have been to. My impression was that prices were cheaper than grays. I spoke with the M.D of J.W.Styles and he said the prices are dropping.
Cylindrical grinder sold for $1000
One nice 800x400 granite surface plate went for $50 + RIP but unfortunately I was at the cashier paying for my lathe and worrying how I was going too explain to the wife another expensive piece of equipment......So I missed out
Cheers
Piers

Wow a Kellenberger, one of the premier CYL grinder manufacturers went so cheap..
Great for the bottom feeders like ourselves.... Sad for Australia...Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

I'd agree with that, the prices on bigger machines is rock bottom, even the scrap dealers aren't buying much, there is a slightly larger DSG on another auction site at the moment, I'll be interested to see what it goes for.
Lots of tooling went for next to nothing.. no one is buying. The only buyers are a few bottom feeders ( like me ).. I keep saying it won't last, in another few years all these machines will be gone.
I got a pallet of odds and ends for $50, included were nice parallels, some Taft-Peirce Box parallels a big Taft Pierce Square,
In other separate lots I picked up 3 machine vises 200mm News Yamatokoki FV190, ( Yuasa? ) fair condition, with a bit of work we will get 3 matched 200mm vises out of it.
