I have not seen this machine in person but I have had dialog with the owner. Whilst I would really like a Deckel S1, this machine has too many issues. It has been used to sharpen chainsaw blades. As such it does not have any of the tooling you need to sharpen end mills and the like. To purchase the necessary replacements (Germany) was looking like it would break the bank. I was looking at it when it was $300. The shipping was going to cost me 1k. Then finding the attachments (expensive) and collets (not as expensive), then the restoration and clean-up made it unfeasible. I concluded I was better off finding a machine that's complete (such as the nice Cinci at the Melb toolmaker auction which sold for ~$600) than one missing the necessary factory delivered parts. The owner was completely honest and up-front about it. He told me himself that the cost of the attachments to grind end mills would be 1.5-2k.

Thanks for that Valiant, it can stay there as far as I'm concerned.

I have even got it home now...

It is a Kodak Model 3 contour projector with surface illumination.... Then the table bit is made by Optical Gauging Products, which bought the design off Kodak..

It all works, has multiple magnifications, although most of the magnification lenses are missing (I only have two), but available on ebay for ~$20 each...

I think it will be a handy addition, needs a good clean up though... Freight was a bit expensive though...

I was wondering about that one, its just over an hour away from me.

Are Herless parts easy to get if needed nowadays ? Is there an interchangable parts relatinship like with some of the older smaller lathes ? ie south bend vs hercus can share some parts ?

What sort of names should I be googling for if I dont mind an older more solid milling machine to accompany my 9" Hercus lathe, as opposed to brand new Optimum or Sieg mini mills ?

Is there a "default" older milling machine that occupies a similar niche to a Hercus 9" in the world of lathes ? I dont want a round column one.

Usually I take one look at the Mills on ebay and think - "Nope - too big and too awkward, and it would it cost as much again to get the right people to shift it ?" Am usually amazed at how casually people consider buying and transporting big solid milling machines and lathes.

I spoke to the owner of that Mill yesterday and he wants over $3500, He says he has a lot of interest in it and is inviting buyers to come and look and "Buy it now".

I wouldn't be expecting to get it at the auction price. He doesn't know much about it, or even what model it is nor the actual table dimensions. It came as a lot from a sale with something else he wanted.

Yep, That was when I lost interest and didn't bother to go look at the machine.
