Default Guidelines on how to use this forum.

    A few basic guidelines:

    • Thread Title should include Common name in capitals, with botanical name (if known) in lower case and in brackets. eg BEENATREE (wasalogiai nowdeadius)
    • Each thread should be for an individual timber species or subspecies.
    • First post in thread should ideally have a good photo or photos and whatever basic information is known.
    • Following post should contain personal experiences, info etc relevant to that that particular timber.
    • Keep all posts on topic.
    • Irrelevant posts and idle chitchat will be deleted.

    Cheers - Neil

Just a reminder that photos with some sort of sense of scale are better than those without.

The other photos usually needed for identification are close ups of bark, mature flower/seeds/fruit and mature leaves on the tree.
Where possible photos should be taken together with a scale in the image and with non-distracting background. e.g. uniform light background.

Most folks who have a piece of timber they want to ID will not have access to any of the above so the only way to positively ID these is to use end grain photos. The wood should be sanded to remove visible sanding marks and a sharp macro photo taken under good lighting.
