Default Mandarine trees. What do do with them

I have two mandarin trees I grew from seed. Been told recently that's not a good idea to grow from seed... They're about 10 years old and I've only gotten 12 huge oranges off them two years ago. Any ideas what I can do to get them to fruit. I don't know a thing about them. I'm going to trim the top metre off them soon. I throw down fruit tree fertiliser couple times a year. I'll give them a couple more years and then they'll get the chop if nothing comes from them.

Every three to four months, fertilise your trees with well-rotted cow manure or blood and bone. From October to January, you can feed your trees with nitrogen-rich fertilisers to promote fruiting.

I wish we had a mandarin tree as it's my favourite citrus fruit, but we only have a lemon tree that fruits prolifically a couple of times a year. Next door neighbour has a mandarin tree in the back yard and they let the fruit fall on the ground and rot. I'd love to be able to collect them from the tree, as on the odd occasion when I have managed to get hold of a couple, they are very tasty. Unfortunately, the place is rented and I really don't want to have anything to do with the tenants, as he's a bit of a nut case.

Is it stating the obvious to say if you picked oranges from them then they are orange trees not mandarins.

LOL. Bad choice of words. They're mandarins, and they're... orange!
