Default Can someone tell me what this is?

Just returned from a couple of weeks in North Qld. and I came across this lovely flower on the footpath. Then this bunch of flowers under the tree in Cairns.
I have asked several of the locals ( Cairns ) and came up with a blank.
Being a fan of this forum for some years I feel sure that there would not a question that one of our members couldn't answer.
Anyway, here are some photos and a common name would be great.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Cheers, Fred

I’m going to guess Barringtomia asiatica or fish poison tree. Common name in Cairns is Beach Barringtonia.

That's them alright. Endeminc in FNQ and used by many first nations people in the Asia pacific. Looks like Spence Shields or Abbott Streets, in Cairns City (haven't been in there in a long while though I'm a Cairns boy at heart still.) Most people enquire about the large seeds. I bet that there was a flying fox camp in the tree as well?

"There is an avenue of these trees in the Townsville Strand Park near the Tobruk swimming baths, and they have also been planted along the sides of Spence Street, in central Cairns." - Barringtonia asiatica 2 - Some Magnetic Island Plants

Thank you very much apple8 and Mobyturns. I talked to about 6 or 8 locals and they did not have any idea.
    Cheers, Fred
