Default Inaugural Post for new Quilting Forum

    Hi Quilters
My husband on Woodworkers Forum put me onto this new Forum for quilters. He is 'Fuzzy' on the WWF, known to me as Franklin.
I am a great supporter of his wonderful woodworking projects, and likewise he with my quilting endeavours. Having an appreciation of quality, design and work(wo)manship is a strong basis of this support. Like all artistic endeavours, constructive criticism and debate is a great tool for taking on challenges and problem solving.
My quilting passion goes back 25 years; allowing my creative and artistic expressions to come forth in my quilts. Although I make some traditional block quilts, I prefer what is called textile art quilting taking inspiration from nature. The abstract design of combining shape, colour and visual effects of fabric to produce an art piece is fascinating. I like to call it 'painting with fabric'.

So, welcome to Quilters who want to join the conversation. I look forward to putting a few photos up of my work and learning about other quilters and their achievements.

Oh, I live on the Gold Coast and am an active member of the Gold Coast Quilters Guild.

    Cheers
    Bronwyn (Bronnie)

    Hi,
    Welcome.
Actually wood work and quilting are the same game, just cutting stuff up and putting it back together in a different shape.
    Regards
    Hugh

    Oh No!!!!!!!!!!! Quilting??????????.........

Only joking. The flexibility of this Forum has no bounds. I hope that the spirit of sharing info and other stuff will be evident to all those who will become regulars on this sub-Forum.
There will probably be some over lap of ideas etc back into Woodworking areas
Good on the Ubeaut team for adding this new Forum
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

Hi Bronnie, welcome to the forum
Not really a quilter myself but my partner won a prize for making one about 30 years ago, she worked professionally as a curtain maker in the past. She still does some sewing but now mostly helps me with the woodworking.

Dont forget to put some photos on the site, maybe even an album.

Add me to the list of woodies who have a partner who is a quilter. I think there are a lot of us. Sometimes I think I get to use my layout tools more for cutting fabric than marking timber

    Cheers

Curtain making was one of my former lives too and I've sewed all my life with dressmaking and the like (6 decades, ouch!).
I'll put some pix up when Fuzzy (Franklin) shows me the tricks of this setup over the weekend.

Yes, we often laugh with our significant others, that we take perfectly good yardage of fabric, cut it up into tiny pieces and sew it together again.

Default Im a dude and Im a closet quilter

Ive made quite a few. I expect the other lads have too.

When one is creative, the material is inconsequential.

We like woodwork because of the huge, expensive very MANLY machines.

I expect there will be a considerable overlap occurring.... covers for chairs, decorations for boxes, new ways of adorning or enhancing our works.... some of the Japanese fabrics I have are absolutely incredible....

Japanese fabrics are my favorite too; Fuzzie and I have had 4 trips to Japan and I can usually add to my fabric stash. Will post pix of one quilt using them. Blues are an universally loved colour (a bit like chocolate) and the indigo fabrics are wonderful.

On a thought seguayed (spelling?), I bet not many people on WWF know that Fuzzie taught himself tailoring when he married me and watched me dressmaking. Took himself off to the library and got out tailoring books. Made a beautiful woollen jacket for himself - welted pockets and the like - and then a tailored work suit for me. He can still run up a shirt if he is so inclined.

Well I cannot lay claim to having made a quilt myself but I have probably cut out the fabric for around 30 of them.

I have sewn cushion covers for furniture I have made and that sort of thing

    Cheers
