I am after some opinions, I was not sure of the best area to put this question.

Of late I am getting more drawn to having Australian made machinery and stuff. I am not sure why, maybe if there is psychologist here they can explain.

I am wanting to keep my eye out for an Australian made lathe. I know there are a lot of them out there and am fully aware of the 9" Hercus and such. Essentially if I am going to get one I want to use it and get a good one. I am in no rush. Size wise I am after something with a total of 12 to 16" swing and be capable of around 30 to 40" between centres. Must have threading capability.

Some lathes like the DSG and Monarch have a reputation for quality. What would be considered the best quality Australian built lathe the fits my parameters?

Please share you opinions as I am looking to learn. It was not until recently I saw an Australian made mill in the full size range so there is a very good chance that there are lathes out there that I have never heard of.

Thanks Steve
