    Default ACE Thicknesser

    Hi all,
I've just picked up an old thicknesser. It has ACE premier engineering works Newcastle branding. It's has a 24" cutter head.
I bought it as part of a package deal with a Lacey sander and got them both for what I consider a great deal.

I would like to put a spiral cutter head in it but at 24" I was quoted around the $3000 just for the cutter, let alone new bearings! A long term goal I guess...

It has power infeed run off a complex series of gears and belts. I wonder if a simple geared motor would do away with all the complexity? Maybe a VFD to make it a variable speed feed?
I'm probably getting carried away now! Just floating ideas around.

Has anyone heard of this brand?
    Any idea of its age?
It came from the Port Augusta power station.

    Cheers,

    Ash.

Ps, ignore the prices on the machines. I didn't pay anywhere near the asking price.
