    Talking Old Bandsaw - Mcpherson/Barker or Imported?

    Picked up this very nice old 32 inch bandsaw which I'm planning to restore. If anyone is able to provide any additional information on it - particularly its make and approx age that'd be very much appreciated.

    I can't find any branding on it, but the workshop I brought it from here in Tasmania had quite a bit of McPherson / Barker equipment (including a huge old buzzer, which i unfortunately missed out on!). This made me think it might be a McPherson or LS Barker, but I've noticed a couple of differences between this and some of the barker bandsaws on other threads here, including the height adjustment mechanism, which is bolted on, and the shape of the hole in the main casting where the bearing housing for the bottom wheel is attached. This made me wonder it might be either a more recent make, or an import - looks similar to some of the old Crescent bandsaws on other threads?

    It has bearings rather than babbitts. The motor is quite old and may be original.

    Nice saw. It has a few similarities with my Preston (Canada) bandsaw, but also enough differences that I’m sure it’s not.

    Looks very similar to a saw I had made by Edward B Scott in Northcote, Melbourne. Very similar casting and top wheel mounting. Mine was 32" and the bar supporting the tip guide was he's, nor square or round. I don't think you'll find much info on it.

    I've read in posts on US sites that if you have a bandsaw without any manufactures name it is almost certainly a Silver Manufacturing Co machine. I also have one that I believe is a Silver and there are similarities to yours. The casting that holds the top wheel bolts onto the frame as yours does. There are similarities between Cresent and Silver and I believe they shared some components but a Cresent will have the name cast into the machine. Mind you there are similarities between a whole heap of different bandsaws. Mine has a McPhersons tag on it so presumably they imported these machines before setting up local manufacture. There is a post of mine on here somewhere that has a few photos of then Silver.
