    Default Belt joiners

    Help anyone know where to get these.
    Started using the RS hogging out some bowls and the b belt keeps slipping.
    The fabric one on the lathe died when we were metal spinning last year.
    I replaced it with an old leather one I’d collected with all the lineshaft gear.
    Ive shortened it once and discovered I’m out of the carded wire joiners.
    The leather is probably cactus but I’m being bloody minded about this.
    Last time I removed and reshaped the wires with a couple of pair of pliers.
    If you have a few strips of joiners to suit about 6mm thick leather I’m happy to do a swap with one of the presses in the photo.

    In a past life I was the purchasing officer for a very large company which had a variety of machines that were driven by line shafts and also cotton carding machinery that used heaps of leather belting for their power transmission. I bought leather belting and composite belting and 'clipper clincher' joining staples which came on a card with either catgut or nylon rods which were used between the staple loops to create endless belts, usually up to about 4 inches wide.
    I have had a bit of a wander around the web and the company I purchased these from (Apex Belting) have been taken over several times, and are now called Fenner Dunlop - Belt Fasteners | Fenner Dunlop

    I found an American company selling pretty much the style of fastener I was buying all those years ago -

    Hopefully a few phone calls to local belting or power transmission companies will solve your problem, especially if you can speak with one of the 'old hands' who has been in the business for a long time.

    Those type of belt joiner are still commonly used to join the rubber belts that roll up hay in agricultural round baling machines.

    Thanks for the idea but the belt is inside the lathe, I couldn’t lace it outside, needs to be joined inside.

    The RS lathe I just bought comes with a continuous modern belt which was added by taking out the motor and spindle . A bit of a job Id say . Haven't used it yet .

    Default Good local supplier of German belt joiners.

    These arrived just now.
    $27 from the ‘gong.
    Suit 1/4” thick up to 12” wide.
    There are 12 in the box, one will last me a lifetime unless I get the lineshaft happening.
    So if you need any just give me a buzz.
    ‘Belt lacing hooks’ are the magic words to find the Oz supplier on eBay.
