Clear coat aerosol for coating bare metal
Am hoping someone can recommend a good quality clear paint that I can use to coat bare metal. I am restoring a bandsaw and there are bits and pieces that I am keen to keep as bare metal; hand wheels, blade support post, etc. Components will be sanded down and polished to as close to a mirror finish where\if possible. There are lots of paints I have found at Bunnings, Autobarn and SuperCheap but recommendations are welcome. I am after an aerosol can as the amount of spraying I would be doing will be limited so don't want to be fussed with spraying with a gun and having to do deal with cleaning up.
What I am looking for is a paint that is:
- Tough
- Doesn't yellow
- Bonds well to metal
- Protects from rust
I am aiming for something as close to the quality of this restore:

I have come across this stuff: Diamond Finish ClearCoat - KBS Coatings I like the fact that it can be brushed on. Anyone have any experience with this?

Unless You plate the parts, frequently handled items such as hand wheels will constantly need to be re coated the finish will just wear off

Unless you want to just look at it I wouldn't Paint it...use a paste wax... Even the polishing process seems to slow down the rust. I have a hammer that I polished a few years ago and it is still rust free.... and I live in a very humid city.

Aldi sells a Deco brand product in a 384g spray can called "Transparent Protection Spray" at irregular intervals as a "Special Buy" promotion with other Deco Style paints. It is described as "perfect protection for metal, wood and plastic". Colour is listed as "transparent". Other claims are "High gloss finish, Seals the surface, Indoors and outdoors", and "High cleanability, weather resistant". As I have not used this product, I cannot comment on its suitability for your application, but it might be worth a try.

Thanks Chas, I can't seem to find anything that compares to KBS DiamondFinish Clear - there looks to be a lot of reviews online (YouTube, etc) that suggests this is the way to go, BUT like Gaza mentioned paste wax may not be such a bad option. I bought some Renaissance Micro-crystalline Wax to coat my Stanley hand planes (was not cheap), this is suppose to be the ducks nuts, Undecided at this point which way I go
