Default Do expressions of interest break forum rules

I am trying to help out a mate (former neighbour) who is not very well and downsizing his gear. He has a piece of favourite equipment that de does not know how to get rid of. He tried to donate it to my Men's Shed (I have moved interstate so not attending there), but they were not interested. He would really like to sell it, but I don't have any idea what it would be worth, and he might be willing to give it away to a good home!
Would it break the forum rules if I posted an expressions of interest post in this part of the forum with details of the machine, then PM'd my friends contact details to any interested forum members? I am not in a position to facilitate a sale etc from this far away.
Not wanting tp tread on any toes!

Have you had look on FB Market place or Gumtree to see if there are any similar machines for sale and this will give you and idea of price.

Then get him to advertise it on FB and/or GT and post a link to it on https://www.woodworkforums.com/f253
In the FB or GT site he can advertising if for $1000 one but in the blurb seller can state "any reasonable offer may be considered".
    See what happens

I've always been a bit ambivalent about the current prescriptive rules for the "For sale" forums. I think an expression of interest as opposed to an outright "first in at the listed price" or (the deprecated) outright auction format would be a quite reasonable format.

Personally, I think if you listed something on the "FOR SALE on eBay and external sites" as an "expression of interest sale", it should be permitted under the existing rules. The external "site" would just happen to be the first person seller rather than a facebook or ebay sale and then it is purely up to the seller to decide how a sale progresses.

This forum is a place for comments which are not necessarily helpful or productive to your friend's plight. So, for example, would you be put out if it received thirty comments pertaining to the utility of the machine or lack thereof from people who were not interested in buying?

In "For Sale" it is generally understood that the forum is not for general discussion of the item, but rather discussion pertaining to the sale of it.

Did that before posting - did not help in this case.

I don't think my mate is up to making up an add himself, but if I lake the description of that forum liberally 'For sale elsewhere', I think it works! Good suggestion!

    Thanks Bob,
I did have a hunt for the gear elsewhere with little success - it is a Shopsmith multi-machine doodad - made in the US - probably pretty rare here. As I said elsewhere I will give the 'for sale elsewhere' idea a go I think.

I personally would not be put out to get a swag of comments, but this community is probably the best chance of finding someone who would "love" one of these. Better than it going for scrap!
