Yes Ive done that sort of thing on furniture. Where I had to take the time and be careful removing later colour jobs and leaving the original faded polish job below. Its a slower process than I want here though . I think it would take a fair bit more time. It'd be interesting to try something like that out and see how well it works though.

A guy called Tom Keating used to lecture at our school and told us to use nothing more than a Q-tip to remove varnish and dirt!, it was a painstaking process wiping on solvent and then neutralizing it.

If you're interested here's a video of his he did back in the early 80's on restoration. I was shocked when I found out many years later he was had up for multiple counts of forgery!.

Nice colour on this one. Which was repainted to the colour in pic on right.

That does look good - do you know what colour that is? Looks like a dark blue of sorts. I don't mind 'Colorbond Ocean Blue' or 'Deep Ocean' as it seems a little less grey and more blue.

I much prefer to see a machine in original paint nowadays, my first pk was in great shape paint wise but at the time I wanted it to look brand new so painted it.
I had a machine that had been painted by a dealer the usual green, they very rarely went to the trouble of degreasing or priming so the green came off with compressed air.
Really early machines were painted black.
