Thanks Vann for the great load of pictures to pick through.
Looking at The PK top extension for the guard I was thinking it could be another way of flipping it out of the way, If a tapered pin and a bolt to pivot on were there on the angle iron bits maybe ? The whole thing could pivot up out of the way. Doesn't look that way though . And I cant see an advantage to doing that either. Swinging it the normal way, if its has to be moved works .

Edit . Picture orientation is a PITA . Tried to solve the enlarged version going sideways but ended up with it going upside down then get this at the bottom . Beyond my editing capabilities . I give up .

What Id like to know is .
I get to do this sort of thing on the Wadkin LQ .
The legs and column and panel decoration in the picture is the same for the WW and larger machines as well as for the LQ and LP smaller machines.
What Id like to know is how Wadkin recommends doing those spiral Barley sugar twist columns in this picture on such machines ?
Is It Wadkin advertising Fib's going on here .
The cutter for the shape and how its put to the timber column that's already turned on a lathe as a blank is fine . But to get it rotating past the cutter and travel L to R at the same time at the right distance per rotation ? There's a tapered one as well . The table with its X and Y axis cant do that. It would need one super fancy jig attached to the table to be able to do that . A Y axis geared to the correct rotation like on a screw cutting lathe.
Maybe possible somehow ? Pretty tricky though .

I've got the original tooling catalogue for the WW, theirs no fancy gearing attachment but there is a lathe tailstock. Some of the tooling is labled LP.
I picked up a catalogue with the king and wadkin patents on it, I beleive this is where the more upright pattern miller design came from and was taken over by wadkin & co when they purchased wadkin mills in 1921.
I like the pic of the original pattern shop, heres a pic just before it was demolished.
