Yes Alli I will be happy when it's done . I will be setting up the most important machines first and then work out the others.
I didn't actually know that I had that number of machines just because I hadn't thought of counting them in the last few years . The Electrician wanted to know the Amps of the ones in use so I counted up the lot . I was surprised !! There is only about seven single phase machines . Then the hand held single phase machine list which is big as well .

Other threee phase machines are the Jet spindle moulder , I want a better Spindle moulder one day .

The Lathes I have Wayne are a Woodfast Lathe , not sure of the model , Its the nice old style one like the Hyco? before it , They keep turning up on ebay ( hey, it's a Pun , Am I supposed to pardon it )
Then there is the Goldie copy lathe , I put it up here a while back . I suppose it's sort of not a lathe , but it has two head stocks and two tail stocks .
Then there is the face plate lathe I made , I never got around to putting it up here . Its the size of your latest Wadkin sander I think Wayne , with variable speed , It has a three phase motor but it actually runs off a single phase VFD. Ill Put in a picture .
One of the Wolfenden chisel or chain machines was taken apart for a machine rest out in front of it. Its a lathe that I can adapt with an angle grinder and welder to turn up what ever I like . I always wanted one so one day I just started building it . I dont think there is such a thing that I could buy under $10 or more , then it's limited to what its designed for.

We're looking at property's and small farms ATM around port Welshpool in sth Gippsland, some are 10acres some are 140 . The local area at 2.5 hours from Melbourne has that undiscovered feel about it , thats fine , discovered area's get more and more busy and the price is always going up and the traffic worse. We have plenty of family down there , there all inlaws to me , nice fisherpeople type some of them . It all started for them down there 1920s when a lovely private school girl, after her schooling, ran away from Melbourne to be with the guy she loved , a light house keeper , they had six children , and then those children all had children , which is roughly my generation , and we all had children . A family day down there can be BIG . My problem with that is remembering all the names .

My new shop will have about 100sq metres and another 60 in an adjacent covered area outside, I need a space for the smaller boats I'm building.
Rob I really like your face plate lathe.

I have the Pickles MEM, a Delta/Invicta 16" Rt40, Wadkin WS pattern mill, a Barker 36" bandsaw, Wadkin BER spindle, SCM thicknesser/jointer combination, and a big Italian bobbin sander to fit in plus the lathe I'm building. Plus a few machines of slightly less repute but they work well enough for what I do.

I have a serious lust for a Wadkin RU or one of the big Olivers but I'm building something similar. 1.5metre diam. over the bed when the gap is open, 3.6m max. between centres and the ceiling will limit outboard to 2.7m diam.
I have a few projects that need some large diameter turning.

To get back to the original topic, large disc sanders. I need a couple as well and they are just not around, well at sensible prices anyway, so I plan to build them. I can laminate aluminium onto a plywood disc with a large lathe faceplate and then mill the aluminium flat on the pattern mill or true it on the lathe.
Concrete in a form ply box provides the necessary mass to stabilise the base and deal with any vibration from mounting a 38mm shaft in pillow blocks. Ply and aluminium for the tables. They don't have to be particularly complex machines to do the job.
They are less complex than your lathe.

I will put up more pics of my faceplate lathe in a new thread , I've almost got around to it a few times before.
I use it for machining radius dishes for guitar making ATM , I have a board and can set it up as a sanding disc as well .
I can also machine across the table with a router while the disc spins which is how I trued up the face plate . I glued 5mm masonite to the cast iron and machined that , then screwed two layers of ply to that.
I have to move the table and build a better tool rest so I can free hand turn as well.

A RU would be a nice big thing to have Alli , have you ever seen one up close ? I haven't.
building with concrete is a great way to go , that's what I did for the base of my faceplate lathe .Ive thought of doing the same for a large RS type of lathe .

Matty is so busy and has all those moulders cluttering up his workshop so he doesn't have any space for a big double disc, a sad situation indeed. We all feel for him.

So as a friend he's asked me to help him out and store any double discs that come up.
But you just need to send him the bill!
