Vintage 18 inch bandsaw
Just picked up this 18 inch bandsaw and would be interested if anyone can help me find out more about this saws history and manufacturer and vintage.
Branded NILE and has a Queensland Machinery Company Limited Brisbane plate screwed to it. Unusual 2 part cast table, original bearings.
Currently in working order but fitted with a 3 phase 3 hp motor (don’t believe that is original) but it does have a motor mounting hinge cast into the feet.
Originally fitted with a flat belt pulley by the looks of the drive shaft on the main wheel.
Depth of cut is around 7 1/2 inches.
Thanks,
Derek.

I know nothing about this saw but I had a guy machine something for me last week and he has one. He's got it hooked up to a VFD in order to slow it down to cut metal which he said does the job well. Nice little saw by the looks and isn't too big like some of the other older gear which is a pain to move.

Great looking bandsaw!
NLA Trove has lots of hits for Nile 18" bandsaws in Qld. Mostly 1930s-60s. By the '50s all advertising seems to be secondhand classifieds. However, here is a retail ad from January 1950:

Thanks for the help. Indeed, there seems to have been lots advertised in the 40s and early 50s (or one unit that was hard to move). Next job is to find a sparky in Brisbane to give some help with a vfd so I can fire it up. If anyone has recommendations, or direct experience themselves would be keen to hear. Thanks, Derek.

Wouldn't a sparkie in Perth be of more use ?

Hi Clinton, sorry I can’t help you. I sold the saw a couple of months back to make space for some other gear in the shed.
