Problem solved, thanks gents. I did a quick crosscut on a piece of 90x19 bluegum just to see what she cuts like, and crikey these machines have a lot of power. I don't think it noticed that there was any wood in the way of the blade at all. I think that I will enjoy using this machine when the new saw blade arrives.

Yes that'll do it (although you can swap any two - red and blue, or red and yellow - which ever is most convenient).

    Edit: Oops, too late.

Bodhan raises a good point too.

The new saw 350mm negative rake saw blade has arrived from carbitool. Looks awesome! Where did you guys buy the bush to reduce the 38mm bore down to the 25.4 needed for the BRA?

I'm still using the blade that came with my Wadkin CK - 1" bore - positive rake .

However when I bought additional blades for my SCMS - I couldn't get the bore I wanted (5/8" from memory) but the guy who supplied the blades gave me adaptor bushes at no extra cost.

You could talk to Carbatec and ask for either the correct bore or a bush.

That a not so common reducer bush (1.5" to 1"). Got a mate with a metal lathe? As Van said, try the blade supplier guys couldn't be much more than $10 inclusive of shipping. Failing all other avenues you could post on the metal working forum to see if someone could make you one for a 6-pack.

that handle should be repairable , I noticed in the photos that the lever for releasing the head to swivel 45 degrees has the handle missing like it was in mine . i reckon it was done so they crosscut only . can you tell me what you paid for yours and what year is stamped on top of the motor itself . mine was made in 1957 and still going strong i pain 400 euro and have seen them for sale for massive money . mine was purchased from a closed down joiner wonderful saw but the 14 inch blade is a little scary

they are banned in Europe from fitting dado heads and ripping in commercial business but when you work for your self its a different story . i contacted a company about buying a riffing knife and got an email back saying they are banned and highly dangerous under the new health and safety act

Thanks all, I contacted the supplier and they have the correct bush. I'll post a pic when the new blade is fitted. Thanks again for all your help!

I'm not familiar with the BRA - I don't know if it has provision for a riving knife. But if you're determined to use yours for ripping you could try making a riving knife yourself.

Here's a sketch stolen from the interweb (upside down for a RAS).

Gauge plate would be good, but other sheet steel can be used - thickness needs to be thinner than the kerf of your blade, but thicker than your blade plate.

    Good luck.

This is the Riving Knife for the BRA. Its used with some sort of hold down fixture held at its front when ripping which I do not have .
Its front for ripping is its back end when cross cutting

Edit . That second video that conarobb put up in post 21 ( Re posted below) shows it off well in use. And it shows its not a hold down fixture , its a "built in Kick Back device" at the 30 second mark .

And a picture of that guard nozzle which I don't have . I just have a bit of wood wedged in that hole to block it off .

    Default Another one

I picked one of these up with a woodfast tablesaw / combination woodworker a few weeks back. Bit of an overkill for me. Is there much of a secondhand market for them?

Yes there is . They seem to move reasonably fast if priced between 400 and 600. That’s the ones needing a clean up and go over .
