    Default Wadkin CK base.

I just wanted to say a big and special thank you to Vann for all his efforts in sending me over (NZ to Australia) a perfect wadkin CK lower post support. The item was unbelievably packaged, suspended in foam surrounded by a 12mm ply wood box and then in a card board box. It was like Christmas all over again ! I especially enjoyed the specific instructions for opening and the use of square drive screws. Vann you are truly amazing, l can't tell you how much l appreciate your help ! Thank you for being such an incredible resource for the Wadkin community !

Thanks Matty, you're making me blush.

The reason I'm a bit pedantic about packaging is, I've had at least three woodplanes arrive in the post broken. The seller packages it in bubble wrap and then into a pre-paid post bag. The first time the postie drops it, the air bubbles at some extremity burst. The second time, all that's protecting the precious casting is three micro-thin layers of plastic.

NZ Post advise that any item should be able to withstand being dropped from 1.2m onto a hard concrete floor (presumably several times ).

So I know how disappointing it can be when your casting arrives munted.

    Cheers, Vann.

Vann, you can surely post that plane on TradeMe as a rare Stanley plane with an adjustable mouth!

I remember posting off a new Record #7.
I watched the lady carry it to the full mail sack (which was supported on a frame) and drop the plane vertically thru all the other parcels.
The plane survived but I wondered if there was any china or other delicate items posted earlier that day

I remember collecting my vintage Record 52 1/2 vice from the post office and it had been dropped, with the boss on the screw breaking through the packaging. It wasn’t even scratched, but I really hope his foot hurt like hell for a few days.

In case anyone is wondering what happened to the rest of the saw, it went to the scrappie a couple of weeks ago.

So why so many holes? Borer? Termites (not in NZ mate!)? Concentrated rust (more typical of NZ ).

Well I spent quite a few (too many) hours cutting and grinding. I thought these might look good cleaned up and mounted somewhere.

And I'd rescued the "Brookhirst" switchgear door. I was going to make a wooden box to store it in, when I decided instead to cut out the switchgear box from the casting.

There was quite a bit of work in that, but I enjoyed the little project (there's no help for some folks ).

I also cut out a nice thick chunk of cast iron to repair a casting on a blacksmiths post drill.

    Cheers, Vann.

That base would have made a nice sturdy leg for a table (if you had the space - which I know you don't). I once considered making a table out of a Wadkin planner which bed was damaged by the cutter head failing somehow. It was going cheap - would have made a very interesting talking piece BUT the wife was not keen at. She just doesn't share my same passions in life

Love the industrial look furniture and have always dreamed of opening a coffee shop thats themed as a woodworking workshop (Wadkin gear of course ) - OK I'll admit that sounds loopy and I'll leave that idea there!

And if a customer walks in with a ‘Rust junky’ tee shirt he gets a free coffee
We would drop in for sure when we’re up from Sinny.

Not that loopy. I've been to one somewhere where the tables were all old cabinet makers workbenches.

That would maybe have been that Wadkin RC buzzer, that was in "very good condition " apart from having a huge chunk broken off the leading edge of one table

    I'll come to your cafe
