We had one of these, it lived in a dark corner of the workshop which I was never allowed near, as a 10 year old, it was an intriguing machine, lots of heads(square) and belts going everywhere. I remember the first time the old man started it up, when I was there, it was truly frightening. It sounded like an angry squadron of hornets. And during Christmas holidays, my job was to go over it and clean every bit of dust off and grease and oil it. Later, as I got older, I learned that it was no longer permitted to be used, because of the lack of safety guards and such, but of course, the old man wouldn’t get rid of it, he did eventually, but I wish I still had it now, it was wonderfully built. I think it was quite old because it only had one massive motor, and everything was run on 2” flat belts. They take up a lot of room though.

Sounds like an old line shaft machine with a later motor added riverbuilder. Great story .
I have this Old Black and White workshop Picture stashed somewhere in My book collection . The Photograph is loose and the safest place to keep it was in a book . It'll turn up one day . I took digital pictures of it . All old lineshaft driven . Running through the floor . The tenoner could be like your Dads one maybe ?

Wadkin EC Tenon Machine
Greetings all.
We’ll it’s been a year since I took delivery of the tenon machine and within that time I’ve tried to chip away at the tasks outlined earlier in the thread. I say I, but in all honesty, it’s been mostly my son with the help of our apprentice that have done the hard work.
They have so far;
* Sourced and purchased new nuts (left and right hand).
* had the nuts machined down to size.
* organised a mate to machine a new saw blade backing collar/washer to match original.
* purchased 2 new tenon heads and 2 new scriber heads from UK and once arrived had them re-machined to fit the length of the motor shafts.
* complete clean and re grease.
* remove, disassemble and rebuild the sliding carriageway .
* remanufacture metal dust collection ports and safety barriers (still some more to do here).
* clean and make good 3phase electrical contactors and replace power cable.
* write an operation manual(SWMS)
* train the lads on safe operation of the machine.
A few photos;
