Thanks for the information, great bit of history right there with those handwritten documents.

I wonder how many made it to Australia and how many are still left around the world, I guess I found luck number 8

I think those two questions will have to remain in the "I guess we'll never know" and "We'll have to keep guessing" catagories .

    Default Test & Inspection

Vann kindly sent me a copy of the 1954 Wadkin Machine Test & Inspection for my EX 112, it comprises of 2 pages from a pre printed Test Book where the Test Number 49660 can be seen in both the top Left & Right corners, this Test Number then gets stamped onto the machines Tag (or identification plate for people that wonder what a Tag is)

Not quite sure if the machine was tested for 18 hours or 8 hours, anyone have any thoughts on what the writing says?

Thank you very much for this historical information Vann

    Default 1936 Catalogue

    Hi Vann,

In a earlier post you wrote "How the EX ended up in the 1936 catalogue, but didn't go into production until 1952, I guess we'll never know. Maybe the war got in the way?" I wonder what happened to the machine they built that appears in there 1936 catalogue was it sold or kept and added to their first batch of 6 machines to be built and sold in the 1950's

    Cheers

    Nigel

The oil mist is just a felt ring that is soaked in oil and I presume the spinning bearing draws the oil to lubricate

I thought I would post a pic of this PDF, for those that don't like too many files on their PC, it's not every Wadkin machine that can show a copy of it's original factory test & inspection document, thanks again to Vann for sharing

My thoughts are it says 8 hours. From the few dozen test sheets I've seen, most have been tested for less than 8 hours.

    Cheers, Vann.

Yes I think your right it does look like one continues stroke of the pen from the line above, but I don't think you would get a machine tested for 8 hrs these days, if they even bother testing them at all.

That’s incredible they tested the machine for 8 hrs! I would say those arnt original fences either. I’ve never seen any like that on a wadkin spindle. I will have to see if I can source you some originals. I’ve only ever seen one ex come up for sale and that had no fences either. I wonder whether that one had been used for ring fence work and so the fences had been lost when it transferred owners

Glad that you can now start seeing pic's , yes mine did come with 2 ring fences (one broken)

I liked the Instagram link you gave me with the cricket bat maker using a double spindle moulder with one head running in the opposite direction to the other to avoid tear out when following the template, might try and link it to this thread
