How rare would you guys say these JQ's are in Australia? They're probably the only Wadkin that I'd ever be able to fit into my small space so I think I want to try getting one.
Would also be interested to watch the RS restoration!

I won one on Epay about a decade ago.
It was up in Newcastle.
Used it for a bit, even scored a pile of discs from the uni that were the right size.
Ended up moving it on as I had started on making a larger single disc using a Wadkin 30" disc.
Didnt have to in the end thanks to Camoz.:D:rolleyes::roll:
H.
Actually that isn't true.
I scored a Wadkin Bursgreen disc and belt.
Thats when I moved it on.:no:
I have never seen one . Ive only been looking at Wadkin stuff for about three years , pretty intensely looking at the auctions and what people talk about here. A few of the larger JTA and others that size have shown up in that time. Smaller direct drive Aussie double disk ones turn up . I bought one of those with the pivoting pendulum type table. You never know what will show up next if you follow hard.
Rob
The older ones like this one don't even appear much in the mother land. Theres plenty of the big boy ones 30" discs and bobbins. Theres plenty of the BGY's
The ECA was about $500 the BRA was roughly $400

Mark,
Another fantastic job! I have not seen the JQ for sale in Australia (in the 5 years I have been looking on and off). Do you know if the mitre gauge is the same as the one on the JTA?
I don't think there is a machine that Henry hasn't had at one point (remember he is the machine whisperer:U). As for the JQ a decade ago, I would have been busy buying import machines new and trying to adjust out of square, flimsy and easily brakeable parts (I didn't wake up to old machinery until about 2011, and even then it was a slow start).
As for sneaking them past me now, well the reality is Henry has probably helped me find more machines than I have him (why do you think I call him the machine whisperer:cool:).
Cheers,
Camo
G'day
Attached is a scan of some information on the Combined Thermal Overload and Single Phasing Preventer from a book I have titled Industrial Electrical Plant Maintenance. No date but first issued from the City Of Sydney Public Library in 1966.
Cheers Hugh
Thanks Hugh, its the electrickery stuff that I struggle with.
Unfortunately Wallace's excellent thread has been photobucketted :~.
I managed to find some low resolution copies of his photos through a google search...

However, I've got these catalogue pikkies that I think I copied from the thread before the photobucketting:

The first cut shows the sander in front of a dust collector/filter. This is missing from Wallace's machine. So when another JQ, complete with dust filter showed up, I thought it worth adding to this thread.

Also of possible interest are these two pikkies showing the table tilt in action:

This machine is JQ 401, test 22363, of 1944.

The only other one I've seen is one that showed up on Trademe back in May this year:Quote:

Woodlogic of this forum won it, and I guess it's shipped across the Tasman and in his workshop in Brissie by now.
For the record, they are:
JQ 401, test 22363, of 1944;
JQM 436, test 24050, of 1945 (woodlogic);
JQ 440, test 25215, of 1945 (wallace).
So what's the "M" in JQM I wonder?
Cheers, Vann.
