Wadkin Patern Makers Vise
IMG_0725 3.jpgAre there any Wadkin tradgic’s out there ??
Hi , Brandavino here, I have been hiding in the man cave for years now but downsizing and deciding what will stay when my Minimax SCM 4E arrives.
Building a new Benchcrafted equiped shaker bench so my old bench will be going, if I keep the Wadkin which is heavy will I be able to grow old gracefully with this monster, or will I just introduce it to selected friends, and dream about the past glories. Should I mount it on another smaller solid bench.
Adapting it, the Wadkin to the Shaker bench will be a nightmare too. The shaker top is not as thick so less carving out of top required.
Rare doesn’t always mean valued, so what to do.

The patternmaking section at TAFE in Brisbane had these on the benches.
One was in Chem Eng at a Sydney uni but wandered off around 2000.
They are very similar to an Oliver.
There has been a debate on this or the Canadian Woodwork forum as to which was the original.
If you decide to move it on I’d be interested.

The place is full of them
Thats a friggin Vice !!!!!!! Ive seen pictures before but never the real thing .
Thanks for showing .
Ive got an Emmert mounted in a work table that sits in front of my work bench . Ive got matching pars of dog holes down the length of its top to line up with the vice. It allows me to hold and work some things never held that way before by me . Its very good . Ive got a pic somewhere if you want a look .
Then there is all the other tricks the vice does .

Would like to see your bench, I know the mount has to be carefully done as weight when fully extended can over balance the bench.
cheers

Yellow!!!
Vann will be along in a minute to give the gospel on colours!!
As he will explain, there is a special place in hell for those who would sully a Wadkin!
Joking aside, it looks a solid thing, quite the range. I'm sure there is a debate as to who copied who, Oliver or Wadkin
Have fun,
Alli

RAL 7011, grey to RAL 7011. Just remember: RAL 7011.
Actually, they used a darker grey in Wadkin & Co. days (and probably many variation during WW2).
Yup!
But who knows if items like these followed the standard Wadkin livery anyway. Maybe they were yellow...
