The mechanism for the 45º cant has two thrust bearings. These are exposed to the atmosphere so privy to getting saw dust on them (See before pic). To avoid gunking up do I bother lightly oiling them with 3-In-One Multi-Purpose Drip Oil?

Maybe a silicone spray would work better

Or maybe a sleeve of some variety over each thrust bearing, to keep out the worst of the dust.

Nigel - I went with your suggestion and using the WD-40 Silicon lube
Feels like progress now - Engine is back together again - hope it starts again. I had a can of gold chrome paint which I can't even remember why or when I got it - it's dressed up the motor nicely (or so I think anyway)
It's been about 1 year since I pulled the saw apart, whilst I did label bits and bolts, others not so much, trying to remember what is what is a bit hit and miss

This is my method to keeping track of parts (mainly bolts) - at times I've got a bit carried away and lumped parts with others which I either loosely related or not related at all - my memory is as useless as a fishnet condom. So putting it all together has been a bit of guessing, trial and error & looking at reference pics that I took and what I can find on Google! I just hope I finish it all with a few bolts left over like I did in my late teens when I pulled out my motor in my 1974 Peugeot 504.

Everyone likes a shiny knob of sorts. With limited tooling I did manage to get a bit of a shine on some parts. See pics 1, 2, 3 (in that order) + a bench grinder polish wheel was used in this example. I coat these parts with Renaissance™ wax (high quality blend of refined micro-crystalline waxes) which does make the surface a bit cloudy but protects it from the moisture in the atmosphere which causes exposed parts to get surface rust - not sure why but in Brisbane parts seem to go rusty really quickly. It's a subtropical climate so I probably shouldn't be too surprised!

A lot of people have said the same thing - very annoying! I don't think it's the rainfall now and then but the constant humidity throughout summer.
I'll see how these fair - I may end up painting them (reluctantly):

what is absolutely remarkable is the amount of thought that has gone into this saw. Whilst the castings is rough the machining of parts so it all comes together perfectly is outstanding!

Apparently not all PKs have this depth stop? Perhaps a Gen 4 (last of the generations) addition?

Slowly piecing it all together - I used brass washers ... "Brass washers are typically utilised in fastener assemblies to distribute loads evenly and increase structural support. Once installed they prevent over-tightening, damage to the installation material and help maintain tension that can be lost due to vibrations".
The majority of the bolts didn't have washers, probably over kill to use brass BUT thought it would look good and match some other brass shiny bits

That's coming along nicely Charl.
I don't think I have that on my Gen 3 PKA 800 - and I've run mine off the top of the thread on a couple of occasions. Similarly, a mate's Gen 3 PKA 803 is currently in bits because his has run off the thread and we weren't able to get it back on.
That looks like a simple modification to make to both PKAs.
